2020 Austin Silva Memorial Scholarship Awards

Congratulations to the the recipients of the Austin Silva Memorial Scholarships for 2020. They are Lauren Moran, Ish Kamara, Caleb Parker, and Lizzie Arnold.
Each of these Lake Highlands High School graduates of the class of 2020 have excelled in the areas of leadership, academics, and service. More importantly, their faith and character have left a lasting impact on other students and our community. Places you could see these students shine include Cross Country, Track, Basketball, Football, Wranglers, Highlandettes, Young Life, Camp Barnabas, their churches, and multiple other student leadership and honor societies at LHHS. They were able to balance extracurricular activities, academics, and maintain a humble spirit and faith in Christ that carried them through challenging life events. Their futures will take them to Texas A&M University, the University of Oklahoma, Baylor University, and the University of Texas at Austin, respectively.
Austin Silva was raised in Lake Highlands attending WRE, LHJH, and LHHS. Austin passed away the summer before his senior year at LHHS. He left a huge legacy that included on his high school resume - Top ten in class, Commended Merit Finalist, National Hispanic Scholar, Captain of Varsity Tennis, Wrangler, and VP of NHS. In the community, he worked as a soccer ref and taught preschool Sunday school for years, was heavily involved in Watermark Student ministries, and served at Camp Barnabas. Most importantly, Austin was known for his faithfulness to friends and family. He was an encourager and had a fun spirit to share. His faith in Jesus guided him each day as he tried to do his best, love others well, and give glory to God in the process. The Silva family is very grateful for the opportunity to honor Austin’s memory with this scholarship and we believe Lauren, Ish, Caleb, and Lizzie embody much of the spirit of Austin.
Thank you to all the seniors who applied. This class is truly remarkable. Special thanks to the Lake Highlands Exchange Club for assisting us with the scholarships.
